A Rustic Publix

Johnny Urban snapped this shot of a 'Rustic' Publix in the Atlanta area. It's at a shopping area with a 'rustic' feel and the Publix was designed to fit in with the surroundings.

Woah! Completely impressed! Wish we had one here, maybe by Munn Park somewhere!

I'd have to see the context to see how it "fit(s) in with the surroundings. Unless that water tower was an existing structure, I'd have to say this is another example of the "Disneyfication" of design. The rusticity would then be artificial and have nothing to do with historical identity and contextual character. Admittedly it looks interesting at first glance, but what does it mean? It gives the impression that there used to be something else there and Publix renovated and transformed it into one of their stores. Interesting but dishonest. Then again, if it is a functioning tower, perhaps hiding a/c equipment or whatever, I'd say it is pretty creative.

I don't work at this store, but one in the same district. While the store looks nice, a lot of it had to do with strict, local building codes. It's a tiny, tiny store inside, but cost more than it will probably ever make to build.
