Congrats to Richard Shapiro

Longtime Ledger veteran Richard Shapiro is set to take over the East Polk division of the Lakeland-based paper. Richard is making the move after former East Polk director Nelson Kirkland took over Steve Schmidt's position as Advertising Director.
I've known Richard for almost ten years and am glad to see him get the position.

I worked with Rich Shapiro during my 2 1/2 years at The Ledger's East Polk HQ. While I'm normally leery of sales types, I always considered him a good guy. He will do well in his new position and the promotion is highly deserved.
In a related note, I also used to work in Florence AL where Steve Schmidt is headed. I'm sure he'll love it up there, as I did (hey I came down here for the money!), and hopefully will get over Bucs withdrawal soon enough. If anybody's thinking about a parting gift for him, may I suggest NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV.
